Challenge: Wood... A Word... Something Wild

5/5/2016

That's right, Creative Carte Blanch wants us to play with wood, words and "something wild" in May!

Well, words are easy --- I have words in the form of stamps, chipboard, stencils, die cuts, stickers... Heck, I can even "WRITE" words!

Wood is a little more difficult, especially in card mode, but I do have these wooden "icons" from Prima.

Now, "wild" --- well that can be interpreted in a number of ways, right? And I have been mulling this over for a couple of days. Finally came up with wildlife (bird feathers, although, in this case, the birds were probably not so wild) and totally impractical (all the depth and texture on this is definitely wild! LOL).

I decided to try monochromatic neutrals again. It seems to be a color palette I am drawn to... which surprises me. Oh well...

I pulled out my textured surfaces and found a scrap of corrugated cardboard which wasn't quite large enough to cover the front of a card so I matted it asymmetrically with a scrap of black card stock (WHY doesn't the self-adhesive on some of these textured surfaces NOT stick? I had to add miracle tape after the fact to hold that coorugated piece down!) . Then I attached three bird feathers (from the Prima "The Archivist Fred Garcia" collection of Chipboards & More) with my Tiny Attacher (first time using it --- had a heck of a time figuring out how to load the thing!). Some 3-D foam allowed me to place the chipboard word plaque over the ends of the feathers. I then used some Multi Medium Matte to attache a small wooden magnifying glass (from the Prima "The Archivist Fred Garcia" Wood Icons collection) over the letter "T" in the word "Toujours". A few sequins and a strip of Idea-ology Industrious Sticker for some shine, and I had a totally impractical (read "WILD") card with texture, dimension, depth, a little sparkle ... and wood... and a word!

This photo doesn't really show how much the feathers stand out, and that dimension is why I consider this card "wild":

  • Adhesives: Ideao-ology Tiny Attacher, Ranger Multi Medium Matte, EK Tools 3D Foam Dots; Viva Las Veags "Miracle Tape'

You are 3 for 3, Carol. You nailed it! I loved it that the challenge made you think. You've combined your elements beautifully for an interesting visual statement on this card. Well done!

Hello Carol! I LOVE your card! I think you did a fantastic job of interpreting our challenge theme and created a lovely, natural card. As you know, I love birds so of course, you had me at the feathers! :) Beautiful use of monochromatic colors without being boring! This is lovely. Thanks so much for joining us at Creative Carte Blanche.
