Distress Glitter - Compendium of Curiosities Challenge 3

5/17/2014

The second installment of the Compendium of Curiosities Challenge (AKA CC3C) for Tim Holtz's third book was page 56 - Distress Glitter and is being sponsored by The Funkie Junkie Boutique

I started with Stormy Sky Distress Glitter, Stormy Sky Distress Paint and three pre-cut chip board fleur de lys. Matching papers to this color wasn't difficult since I had several shades of grey blue in my Bazill stash. Fleur de lys could only mean one thing to me - Paris - so I searched my stash of stamps, stickers and embellishments for would work with a Parisian theme. There was an Eiffel tower stamp from Tim Holtz, a Bon Voyage stamp from Stampin Up!, and an "explore" stamp from The Rubber Cafe.

The "Bon Voyage" was stamped with India Ink. The Eifel Tower
and the "Explore" were stamped with Versamark and embossed with fine silver embossing powder.  The chip board pieces were painted and glittered and mildly distressed.  A fabric stitcker ("Discover") , a red-white-and-blue ribbon and three Ideology acrylic stars competed the materials needed to make a Bon Voyage Card should I ever encounter someone who is traveling to Paris to enjoy the city by night (after all, Paris is "The City of Lights"!)!

Paint Marbling - Compendium of Curiosities 3 Challenge

5/1/2014

Paint marbling is a technique using Tim Holtz' Distress Paints, resulting in a background look similar to marbled paper. This part of the challenge is being sponsored by Inspiration Emporium

I started with three colors of Distress Paints (Broken China, Salty Ocean and Mustard Seed), a mini spritzer of water, a pad of "Vintage Photo Distress Ink, a blending tool and Kraft tags. The result was three tags with various levels of success.

I figured they needed a little embellishment so I stamped an archival ink image of dogwood flowers on two of the tags. Then, I used some distress paints in three shades of pink on a piece of white card stock, stamped the same image of dogwood flowers, and selectively cut out flowers which I layered on top of the stamped tags randomly.

On the third tag, I stamped a sentiment in archival black and added three more cut flowers.

Using a business-evelope-sized card blank in pale pink, I glued one tag at an angle, used score tape to create a pocket with the second and inserted the sentiment tag into the pocket.

Born in New Jersey, I grew up in Southeastern Ohio. Attended university at Bowling Green State University (B.Sci  in biological science, 1964), University of Southern California (M. Sci in biological science, 1967) and University of Florida (Ph. D in zoology, 1971).
Worked in environmental consulting for a little more than a decade and then seven years as an instructor in biological science at various community colleges in California and Texas. Moved to London in 1992, then Beijing (1996) and Saudi Arabia (1998), before returning to NW Ohio in 2002. I am currently living in NW Ohio with my husband and three Bombay cats.  I love to read (mystery, science fiction, history) and stitch (have done crewel, currently experimenting with free embroidery and needlepoint but blackwork and cross stitch are my main genres); have been known to knit; and now I'm heavily into papercrafting!
Retired upon the return to the US so lots of time for our hobbies...
