Challenge: Tape It Up

11/27/2019

The Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge design team wants us  "to create something using tape" for their challenge for November 25, 2019!

I assumed that directive did not refer to using double sided tape to adhere things but to use decorative tapes like glitter tape and wash tape and the like. So I started with a broad washi tape from Altenew and added a glitter tape, maker unknown, to a card base:
Picture
I then searched my leftovers for an appropriate shape for a sentiment and found a chipboard hexagon that had been coated with gesso. I stamped the sentiment in Distress Oxide Ink and enhanced the lettering with the matching Distress Marker (the Distress Oxide ink faded slightly into the gesso when dried). I matted the shape with two shades of blue card stock and attached the shape and three blue tatted flowers to the card to finish:
Picture
Products used in the making of this card were:
  • Stamps: GinaK "Colossal Cone Flower"
  • Inks: Distress Oxide "Stormy Sky"; Distress Marker "Stormy Sky"
  • Papers: Paper Studio A2 notecard "ivory" (225219); scraps of blue and dark blue card
  • Embellishments: gessoed chipboard hexagon; Glitter tape; Altenew "Monochrome Washi Tape" (ALT2175); tatted flowers
  • Adhesive: GinaK "Connect" glue

Christmas 2019 Art Swap

11/27/2019

I belong to a private facebook group that was formed after our forum on iVillage was closed (Village went out of business, actually) several years ago. We have annual holiday swaps of cards and a small gift among interested members.

This is the card I made for my part of the swap... which I mailed out in late October and was received some three weeks later thanks to the US Postal Service and Canadian mail, which simply don't seem to be able to cooperate!

I started by cutting a cut of Neena Solar white card with a new Hero Arts cover plate and layered it on a deep red card base:
Picture
I ran the die a second and third time, using metallic gold and shimmery green cardstock scraps. I inlaid these scraps into  the white die cut:
Picture
I heat embossed a sentiment from a 2019 Hero Arts stamp set:
Picture
For some reason, the red card stock I used absorbed a lot of the sticky ink and the words blurred so I die cut the cover plate from a scrap of red card that was less absorbant of the embossing ink, and stamped and embossed the sentiment on the die cut piece that fit in the ornament. This piece was a little lighter than the card base so I added red enamel dots of the same shade as the die cut sentiment to carry the color around the card, as well as for a little texture:
Picture
Products used in the making of this card were:

  • Stamps: Hero Arts “Stylized Christmas Trees” (CM401)
  • Dies: Hero Arts Fancy Dies “Ornament Pieces Cover Plate” (D1703)
  • Embossing Powders: GinaK “Fine Detail White”
  • Inks: Versamark
  • Papers: Die Cut With a View Card Stack “reds” (CM-012000009); Neena Solar white; scraps of metallic gold, shimmery green and red cardstock
  • Embellishments: Altenew Enamel Dots “red cosmos” (ALT2591)
  • Adhesives: GInaK “Connect” glue

Christmas Cards

11/23/2019

I've been trying to get caught up on taxes and keep up with challenges but I also started on making some of our Christmas cards for this year. Back in July I made several backgrounds using various seasonal card bases and the "solids and patterns" pad for Graphic 45's "Joy to the World Collection.
In a Graphic45 Challenge for November, I used one of these backgrounds to make a card (which will go into my card stash for  addressing and mailing the weekend after Thanksgiving, as per our tradition):
Picture
On November 22, I sat down and mass-produced a number of cards using backgrounds, Graphic 45 journaling cards, Hero Arts' Art Flowers, gold brads or yellow gems to create the following batches of cards:
On the same day, I pulled some more backgrounds and added Tim Holtz ephemera (I had run out of journaling cards!)::
The card with the bell and holly swag was "upside-down" and had to be cut apart and reapplied to a new card base...

On November 23, I tackled the rest of the card bases. I found more journaling cards:

Picture
I used two sheets of "Joy to the World" stickers to create more "clean - and- simple" cards:
And I finished up with "Joy to the World" chipboard, adding stickers where sentiments were needed:
Picture
The next installment of cards, assuming I actually get there, will be something OTHER than G45 as I have run out of "Joy to the World"...

Products used in the making of these card were:
  • Papers: "Graphic 34 "Joy to the World - patterns and solids" (4501910); Lasting Impressions “Holly Days” in burgundy and green; Bazzill Basic Monochromatic blue/green in "jade", "Blue-green", "lagoon", "Aqua", and "Hazel"; scraps of green and red cardstock
  • Embellishments: Graphic45 “Joy to the World “Journaling & Ephemera Cards” (4501914),  “Joy to the World” stickers (4501913), and “Joy to the World Chipboard (4501912); Hero Arts Art Floweres “Poinsettia” (CG197); gold brads , maker unknown; Hero Arts Gemstones “yellow” (CH126)
  • Adhesives: 1/8" scortape; GinaK "Connect" glue

Challenge: Lovely Leaves

11/21/2019

The challenge for November 20, 2019 on the Funkie Junkie Boutique Blog is "Lovely Leaves"...

"At this time of year leaves take over from flowers as the stars of Nature's display - the deciduous ones take on beautiful Autumnal hues before falling to the ground, whilst the evergreen ones keep our gardens from looking bare as we wait for new flowers to appear in the Spring. For this challenge make sure to add leaves (or even Pine Needles if you like) to your vintage or shabby chic projects."

I went clean and simple with this card:

Picture
A little hard on the eyes but I had registration issues...

Precuts used in the making of this card were:
  • Stamps: GinaL "Layerd Leaf Prints" and Hero Arts "Colorful Layering Grateful Leaves" (CL987)
  • Inks: GInaK "Sweet Mango", "Coral Reef" and "Faded Brick"
  • Papers: The Paper Studio "ivory" notecard (225219)

The Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge for November 20 2019 is "Starry Starry Night". In other words, include at least one star. And notwithstanding the Don McLean song "Vincent" playing over and over in my head, I decided to do a emboss-resist card using Distress Oxide ink blending:
Picture
Products used in th making of this card were:
  • Stamps: Stampers Anonymous "Christmastime 2" (CMS389)
  • Inks: Distress Oxide "Tumbled Glass", "Stormy Sky" and "Faded Jeans"; Versamark; Wendy Vecchi "white gesso"
  • Embossing Powders: Ranger "Clear" (SFJ06954)

Challenge: Emboss Resist

11/19/2019

The WOW! challenge for November 2019 is to use the emboss resist technique on a project.

I started by repeatedly heat embossing a stamp on a refolded notecard (I didn't have a WOW! dark green embossing powder so I used another brand for this layer):
Picture
Then I re-embossed using WOW! "Jealous Guy" embossing powder to ad a "sun kissed" look:
Picture
Next, I created a galaxy sky/sunset on the card (Distress Oxides Iks and Wendy Vecchi white gesso), and wiped the embossed trees clean to show the resist:
Picture
I completed the card by adding s few splashes of gesso (wiped off) to create wisps of fog in teh trees and drifts of snow on the ground, and added two Idea-ology stickers as a sentiment:
Picture
Products used in the making of this card were:

  • Stamps: GinaK “Tall Pine”
  • Inks: Versamark;, Distress Oxide “Squeezed Lemonade”, “Carved Pumpkin”, Picked Raspberry”, “Chipped Sapphire”, and “Black Soot”; Dina Wakely “White Gesso”
  • Embossing Powders: Comotion Clear Top “Bright Putt-Putt Green” (161323) and WOW! “Jealous Guy” (WK16R)
  • Papers: D*M*D notecard “white spec” (NTC 01210)

Challenge: Recycle

11/19/2019

The Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge for November 18, 2019 is "Recycle". That is, "to create something previously used".

I decided to recycle the following items:
the remains of packaging from a layering stencil package, a sheet of thin shipboard that was used as a stiffener in a mailer; and a tissue envelope that enclosed freebies in a frilly & Funkie purchase. IN addition, I retrieved a number of die-cutsof foliage and words from my "left-over" stash:
Picture
My first step in the creation of this card was to stamp a background in Versamark and heat emboss with Mixed Media Powder on a small cut of the thin chipboard:
Picture
I tore a strip from the tissue envelope and blended four shades of green Distress Oxide Inks on the torn edge:
Picture
I adhered the tissue strip to the chipboard background:
Picture
I arranged the foliage die-cuts on the chipboard base:
Picture
I heat-embossed the die-cut word using the same Mixed Media Powder that I used on the chipboard. I adhered it to a strip cut from the tag packaging and attached the strip to the chipboard base. I then attached the base to an "ivory" notecard:
Picture
Finally, I added some gold confetti, added a chitchat sticker, and popped up a paper doll:
Picture
Products used in the making of this card were:
  • Stamps: Stampers Anonymous Studio 490 Wendy Vecchi "Wire with a Twist" (WVBG059)
  • Dies: various foliage and word dies from Sizzix
  • Inks: Versamark; Distress Oxide "Peeled Paint", "Twisted Citron", "Bundled Sage" and "Shattered Shutters"
  • Embossing Powders: Ranger "Mixed Media Powder - Lime" (EPM64022)
  • Papers: chipboard, tissue and tag packaging to recycle; D*M*D notecard “white spec” (NTC 01210)
  • Embellishments: Darice "Confetti" (1630-37); Idea-ology "ChitChat - Seasonal" (TH93050) and "Paper Dolls" (TH93555)
  • Adhesives: Xyron 250 sticker maker; GiaK "Connect" glue; Ranger "Adhesive Foam" (IWT40514)

11/16/2019

The Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge for November 13, 2019 is "Thanks/Thanksgiving".  I decided to make a clean-and-simple thank-you card with a traditional Thanksgiving theme:

First I stamped the image on ivory card in GinaK Amalgam ink:

Picture
After touching up the solid black areas, I "corrected/leveled" the horizon with a black fine-line pen doodle, and colored the image with Intense pencils and a Tombo blending pen. I added a sentiment in Amalgam ink:
Picture
Products used in the making of this card were:

  • Stamps: WeCraft “The Artful Maven - Autumn” (AM07332)
  • Inks: GinaK Amalgam “jet black”; Inktense Pencils “Sun Yellow” (0200), “Baked Earth” (1800), “Ink Black” (2200), “Leaf Green” (1600), “Fuchsia” (0700), “Madder Brown” (1720), “Poppy Red” (0400), “Apple Green” (114), and “Tangerine” (103); Pigma Micron 05 “black” fine-line marker

Challenge: Thinking of You

11/16/2019

The Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge for November 11, 2019 was "Thinking of You". While the main text of the challenge post referenced Veteran's Day, I decided to go with a stash-busting generic card instead.

I started with a background I had made
based on a Jennifer McGuire video back in June of 2018 and added a sentiment:
Picture
It looked a little barren so I located a scrap of green Bazzil card and applied "Lucky Clover" distress ink to it:
Picture
I cut two 1/8" strips from the green card and applied it to the background before trimming the panel down and applying it to a pre-folded ivory notecard:
Picture
Products used in the making of this card were:

  • Stamps: hero Arts “Classic Fabric” (CG245); Stampendous “Decor Music” (DCR105); Altenew “Painted Greetings”
  • Inks” Distress Inks “Lucky Clover” and “Twisted Citron”
  • Papers: Neena Solar White; The Paper Studio notecard “ivory” (225219); scrap of green Bazzill cardstock
  • Adhesive: iCraft “Easy Tear Tape”; GinaK “Connect” glue
