Challenge: Make Your Own Background, part 2

3/7/2017

Here is another entry in the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge for March 6, 2017. Before I started on the card described in the previous post, I was going to go all the way Dylusions with my background. I got out my Dylusions paints and two Dylusions stencils and set to work with a blank card front and baby wipes. I went ombre with this one as well, but using Dylusions paints through the small stencil and then I took a mask from the second stencil and sponged black Dylusions paint on all of the card except where the mask was placed. I got this background:
Picture
I never seem to be able to get the black to tally obscure the color --- you can see there the pattern was by a faint glow of color and the raised areas left by the paint as it went through the stencil.
Now it was time to try to come up with something to place ON the background --- always my main issue with created backgrounds. I did have a paper doily and a mental finding with a brad which I though would work combined to cover the worst part of the black on the right where the mask didn't protect "her" hand. But how to balance it out?

I found a scrap of yellow card that matched the yellow paint I used, stamped a Dylusions sentiment (or half of one) on it i Archival "Vermillion" and outlined the card using an InkTense Pencil.

Still needed something, however, so I used another Dyuisions stamp set, Versamark and white embossing powder to add leaves and then placed the label and the doily on the card:

Now that I look at it in this picture, it looks like "she" is twirling and ornate parasol in the hands while posing for the camera.
Products used in the making of this card were:
  • Stamps: Dyusions "Quintessential Quotes" (DYK34490) and "Doodle Parts" (DYK 34582)
  • Stencils: Dylusions "Alphabet Border Small" (DYS 38399) and "Annie 9 x 12" (DYS 37866)
  • Inks and Paints: Dylusions "Cherry Pie", "Tangerine Dream", "Pure Sunshine", "Lemon Zest", and "Midnight Black"; Versamark; Archival "Vermillion", InkTense Pencil "Poppy Red" (0400)
  • Embossing Powder: Top Boss "white"
  • Embellishments: paper doily and metal finding and brad for a Funky Junkie Boutique glassine envelope freebie
  • Paper: Paper Studio value pack notecards "white", scrap of lemon yellow card
  • Adhesives: Ranger Collage Glue Stick

This is such a striking creation! I really like the direction you took and how you not only did an ombre effect inside the stencil, but also did it with a pattern. I think this is a brilliant technique and I'm so glad you shared such an inspired idea with us here at the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog!
