Challenge: #hipforsummer

There is a promotion going on over at the Tim Holtz blog and at the Sizzix blog called "Get Hip for Summer and is featuring the new Hipster stamps (Stampers Anonymous) and dies (sizzle) as designed by Tim Holtz. Since I finally found my Hipster sets (after temporarily misplacing in a storage container where they SHOULD have been! LOL), I had planned to make a Hipster-inspired card for the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge, June 5, 2017 and the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge, June 7, 2017... and it seemed that I might as well enter the "#hipforsummer" promotion as well.

I started with background panels using scraps of card and patterned scrapbook papers with a retro feel:
My next step was to layer these panels, using foam squares to raise the middle one above the background card:
This approach was another modification of the tutorial posted by  Katelyn Grosart on the G45 Blog. I changed the papers, measurements and how the panels were attached but the end result was similar to her background piece.

Next, I stamped the Hipster "Ostrich" three times on Ranger watercolor paper using Archival Ink. I colored these images using Distress Markers and a detail blending pen. I then die-cut the pieces of the final ostrich and attached these pieces in layers, using foam dots and the occasional dab of Distress Collage Medium. I popped the ostrich up on the card and stamped a hashtag as a sentiment:
Picture
I'm not sure that there are any "yellowish" ostriches with blue eyes out there in the real world, but then I never saw an ostrich with glasses, a hat and a scarf either so I guess that doesn't matter!

Products used in the making of this card were:
  • Stamps: Stampers Anonymus "Hoster" (CMS288) and "#hashtags" (CMS183)
  • Dies: Sizzix Thinlits "Hipster Ostrich" (662250)
  • Inks: Archival "Jet Black"; Distress Markers "Rusty Hinge", "Fossilized Amber", "Scattered Straw" and "Tumbled Glass"
  • Papers: scraps of pale blue, tan, rust and yellow card stock; scraps of Creative Memories "Cabana" papers and Memories Magenta Style "Mes Souvenirs" ("Gaily Flowers"); Ranger Water Color paper (ISW39532); Paper Studio Value Pack Notecards "ivory"
  • Adhesives: Viva Las Vegas "Miracle Tape"; EK Tools 3D Foam Dots; Distress Collage Medium

Entered in:

  • Simon says Stamp Monday Challenge, June 5, 2017: Masculine
  • Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge, June 7, 2017: Make it Masculine

This is such a great card and you've used my favourite Hipster of them all, which I just love! Thank you so much for sharing and for playing along with us over on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog... x
