While the design team defines a haberdasher as "a person who sells small articles for sewing, such as buttons, ribbons and zippers", the Merriam-Webster has two slightly differing definitions:
- British : a dealer in notions
- US : a dealer in men's clothing and accessories
I opted for the British version and went with my concept of notions: items used in sewing, such as buttons, pins, and hooks. However, I didn't want to overload my card with heavy and bulky objects so I decided to go with stamped images and a single charm, using fabric and trims as a background.
This was a relatively clean-and-simple card. I stamped the "bobbins" of "cotton" (British for floss) and a measuring tape in Antique Linen on an ivory card base. I added some Idea-ology linen and a strip of decorative trim (AKA gimp). Additional stamping in Archival Inks of a dress form and a sentiment as well as a small gold scissor charm completed my card:
- Stamps: Cardmaking magazine freebie 2012 “Sew Pretty”
- Inks: Distress Ink “”Antique Linen”; Archival “Jet Black” and “Coffee”
- Papers: paper Studio notecard “ivory” (225219)
- Embellishments: Hobby Lobby decorative Trim “natural” (355891); Idea-ology “Textile Surfaces” (TH93294); EK Success “Jolee’s by You” charm (JJHA00413)
- Adhesives: RedLine 1/8” embossing Tape
