Simon Says Create 2017, pt2

I spent some time this morning putting the finishing touches on the four cards I made in the "Create It - Take It" portion of the Create event. Sadly, what with classes and shopping, I wasn't able to take advantage of the more than 24 create-it options that were available so I had to pick and choose - and I opted for the people I greatly respect from online blogs and videos, and let the room of demos do the guiding for me. I ended up at five different vendor's tables in the bride time I had between lunch and class.

My first "create-it, take-it" (Friday, the 28th) was by Stephanie Barnard for Sizzix. She had this Framelits-Fold its die set which allows you to make a card which is side or top-folding, and what is more, the die has the necessary guidance etched on it! Great Idea! Here is the end result - from left to right: instruction sheet, card from and card interior!
My next "create-it, take-it" was by Laura Bassen for Altenew. I was rolling right along until it came to the sentiment, where I stamped it UPSIDE DOWN! ARRRGH! That was a discard and I have no picture of it. I COULD have started over but...

The young lady at the neighboring table, who claimed not to be a crafter, and who was demonstrating for Chibitronics (I never thought to ask her name - sorry), asked if she could use the tossed version of the card to make one of her electrified pieces. Well, naturally, I was fascinated by these little Chibi LEDs and wanted to know how they worked, so I got my autograph from Laura and slid over to the Chibitronics table where I learned how to create a circuit in a card! How cool! Here is my little cupcake card from that "create-it, take-it" - with it lit up on the right (just press on the star!):
Moving on to WOW! embossing powders and glitters --- and Shari Carroll! I had taken a class from Shari at the 2014 Create event and so was eager to see what she was doing for WOW! Now Shari professes to not like glitter and to never use it so I was fascinated by her demo. It used four different WOW! products liberally sprinkled on a non-inked piece of chipboard, which is then covered with parchment paper and heated. As the embossing powder starts to melt, you press the opening of the heat gun on the embossing powder and then, while still heating it, you apply the back of the spoon to the parchment paper to smooth and mix the powders. When the parchment is pulled away, the end result looks like an enameled shape! And no glittery mess!

Oh, and Jennifer McGuire popped in while we were heating our chipboard pieces and demonstrated how Swiffer duster cloths totally controlled spills of glitter and embossing powder. Great tip!

Here is my card from that demo:

My final "create-it, take-it" before heading off to class was with Lorraine Aquilina who was working the Technique Tuesday table. I had met Lorraine (AKA Lols) on Friday and discovered that she was a Yorkshire lass now living in Malta --- possibly one of the longest trips by anyone to attend this event. However, while I sat at her table, stamping away, I discovered that she was also on the design team for Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge, an online challenge blog I try to NEVER miss!! Small world!

Here is my Technique Tuesday kit and final card:

Worked in environmental consulting for a little more than a decade and then seven years as an instructor in biological science at various community colleges in California and Texas. Moved to London in 1992, then Beijing (1996) and Saudi Arabia (1998), before returning to NW Ohio in 2002. I am currently living in NW Ohio with my husband and three Bombay cats.  I love to read (mystery, science fiction, history) and stitch (have done crewel, currently experimenting with free embroidery and needlepoint but blackwork and cross stitch are my main genres); have been known to knit; and now I'm heavily into papercrafting!
Retired upon the return to the US so lots of time for our hobbies...
