Simon Says Create 2017, pt 1

I want to blog about Simon Says Create 2017 #simonsayscreate but since I didn't finish the all the projects in the classes, this will have to be in installments.

On Thursday, April 28, just after lunch, my dear husband drove me down to Columbus, Ohio so I could attend Create 2017. I wasn't able to get into the event hotel --- we were about 9 miles down the road, so we explore a little so we would know our way around and then settled in at the Hilton Garden Inn.

Early Friday morning, registration! Oh my goodness, who is up and groomed and dressed in time to drive 9 miles to register at 7:45AM. But I made it and this is what we got: a Create tote with all the info we needed about the event and free copy of Scrapboos and Cards inspiration magazine. Also in the bag were (not shown) a Kind energy bar, an auction paddle (which I never used) and a lanyard which identified which "group" we were in. I was in Group A and my name badge and class schedule can be seen in the left photo, along with the raffle tickets I earned by shopping at the event shop on both days (didn't win anything tho) and our hotel card folder.
I had arrived at the event with a single white  tote bag containing my tool kit (which I never opened), my ink catalog/autograph book (you can see that on top) and a pen and paper for notes (which I never used!). This is what I came home with and left at the top of the basement stairs when we unpacked the car:

I took them down to my craft room Monday morning (missing the last step and spraining my right ankle and left knee --- but not using my hands so my healing wrist is fine and now I'm a little leery of going back down into the basement to actually use these items) but I did unpack and sort on Monday (after icing that ankle for a few hours).

Here is what I bought (WAY above my self-imposed budget but I couldn't help myself!)!

On Friday, after registering and getting my lunch tickets for both days, I hit the shop. In fifteen minutes, I scored these goodies and maxed out my budget: Idea-ology "Ruler Pieces"; Stampers Anonymous "Mini-Motivation" stamp set; Altenew "Adore You" and "Beautiful Day" stamp sets; Hero Arts "You Are Loved" stamp set, "Handmade Kindness" and "A Bit of Kindness" fancy dies and "Peacock Feather" stencil; Be Creative 3mm wide tape; and Dylusions paint pens!

To kill time on Saturday morning (husband had a tee time at 9 AM so he had me there at 8, just as the shop opened but a full hour before my first class of the day), I shopped again, spending 1.5 ties what I spent on the day before!: Concord & 9th "Butterfly Beauty" and "Wildflower" stamp sets and "Butterfly" die set; Technique Tuesday "Kyle the Cool Cat" stamps and dies; Altenew "Painted Greetings" stamp set and Hero Arts “Goldfish"and "Koi" stamp and die sels.

You would think that would be enough, wouldn't you? After all, this event has a tradition of giving things away. But I couldn't resist, and it turns out that only one of the giveaways duplicated a purchase.

And speaking of freebies... look at this haul just from the Simon Says Stamp people and the event sponsors at the end of the final class!! It was a signature Simon Says Stamp zippered tote, and in it were all of the following.

In Photo #1 are: a Simon Says Stamp bag; Pinkfresh Sticky notes, wash tape, icon stickers and alpha stickers; Faber Castell Gelatos; a Chibitronics circuit kit;  a Reverse Confetti "Free Spirit" 6x6 paper pad and a Simple Stories "Enchanted" 6x6 paper pad; a Stencil Girl "Grow Love" stencil and a Carmen Melin "Mini-Literary" stencil! The Ranger Apron was a random hand-out in the hallway between classes!

In Photo #2 are:
Studio Katia "Thank You" stamp, crystals and sequins; Newton’s Nook "Newton’s Birdbath" stamp; Gerda Steiner "Coffee Hedgehog" stamp; Avery Elle "Strike Up The Band" stamp set; Winnie and Walter "Julia’s Rose" stamps set; Paper Smooches "Cosmos" stamp set and Jane’s Doodles "Plants"

In Photo #3 are:
Mommy Lhey "Cactus Friends" stamps set; Power Poppy "Short Stacks" stamp set; The Greeting Farm "Frou Frou Sweet" stamp; Simon Says Stamp "Coffee Hour" stamps set; Sunny Studio "color" die; Sugar Pea "EKG with hearts" die; Lawn Fawn "Valentine’s Borders" die set; Poppy "Gentle Wave Collage" die; Pretty Pink Posh beads; Little Things “Simon Says Stamp Sparkle”  and a sequin mix, source unknown

In Photo #4 are all Idea-logy:
monocles, foliage, industrious stickers-borders, journaling tickets, and alpha parts-newsprint
Not shown is a sample Peerless Watercolors sample booklet.

Think I'm finished?

Oh no, there are the giveaways that accompanied each class!

Photo 1 shows the goodies from Tim's class, NOT counting the leftovers from the kit for the class project(s): the tote bag; Idea-ology "Motif" 12x12 paper pad, adornments-souvenir, paperstring-solids, alpha chips-elementary,small stalk stickers-occasions, and framed alpha parts;Stampers Anonymous layering stencils ## 52 (gears) and 76 (ornate)

Photo 2 shows the WPlus9  "Create something Beautiful" stamp created just for Dawn Woleslagel's watercolor class

Photo 3 shows the freebies from the card class led by Jennifer McGuire and Kristina Werner: Hero Arts "You Are Loved" stamps set (the only duplicate from all my purchases!) and 4 ink cubes. Not shown, a MISTI! Yes, they gave everyone a MISTI!

And in Photo 4 are the freebies from Yana Smakula's Spellbinders class: Spellbinders "Wild & Free" stamp and die set, "Southwest" die set, "Hexie & Friends" Steel Rule Die, Tool ’n One, and magnetic “gem”.

I hope to motivate this afternoon and a) put a few things away, b) play with a few things and, most importantly get started on finishing up the class projects so I can show them and the make-and-takes (aka "Create It -Take It") which I managed to get to in another post.

Born in New Jersey, I grew up in Southeastern Ohio. Attended university at Bowling Green State University (B.Sci  in biological science, 1964), University of Southern California (M. Sci in biological science, 1967) and University of Florida (Ph. D in zoology, 1971).
Worked in environmental consulting for a little more than a decade and then seven years as an instructor in biological science at various community colleges in California and Texas. Moved to London in 1992, then Beijing (1996) and Saudi Arabia (1998), before returning to NW Ohio in 2002. I am currently living in NW Ohio with my husband and three Bombay cats.  I love to read (mystery, science fiction, history) and stitch (have done crewel, currently experimenting with free embroidery and needlepoint but blackwork and cross stitch are my main genres); have been known to knit; and now I'm heavily into papercrafting!
Retired upon the return to the US so lots of time for our hobbies...
