Challenge: Terrific Tags

The Funky Junkie Boutique Blog Challenge for September 11, 2019 was "create a tag with your own personal style. It can be large or small.  Let us know in your post what you're going to use your tag for..."

I had a heavyweight Distress Tag in my stash of tags that had been coated with opaque white gesso. I decide to experiment with blending four Distress Oxide inks ("Dried Marigold", "Spiced Marmalade", "Rusty Hinge" and "Twisted Citron") over the gessoed surface:
Picture
Great blending but not a lot of depth so, after heat setting the tag, I adde some stenciling using a "Rusty Hinge" Distress Oxide:

Needed more layers so, after more heat setting, I stamped with a background stamp using Distress Oxide "Candied Apple":
Picture
I die cut a floral border from some scrap yellow card stock and added sections to the top and bottom of the tag:

I added a bit of bling with some Hero Arts clear crystals:

It felt like the top and bottom of the tag were disconnected so I aded three lengths of different widths of red tape to one side:
Picture
"This made up my "background. Now for the content!

  • I cut out a photobooth photo and layered with with an Idea-ology deco frame.
  • I tried stamping a sentiment on the background but it smeared so I pulled two scalloped circles from my leftovers, blended on each (Distress Ink "Spiced Marmalade" on one and "Distress Ink' Candied Apple" on the other) and tempted my sentiment on the "Spiced Marmalade Circle.
  • I layered that circle on the "Candied Apple one, slightly offset, and attached it the the tag, covering the failed-and-smeared sentiment on the background
  • My final touch was a length of died crinkle ribbon from a freebie envelope from a Funkie Junkie order:

This clearly NOT suitable for a gift tag and a little large for a card front so it will likely sit with other tags I have made on a Chinese Rosewood plate stand!

What a great tag. I love how you stamped your background. I'm not much of a stamper so I am always amazed at beautiful backgrounds created by stamping. Thanks for joining our Funkie Junkie Boutique challenge.

Carol, your work just keeps getting better and better! The background stamping is wonderful and eye catching and adding the red tape on the side is genius! What a wonderfully composed piece of tag art! Thank you for playing along at The Funkie Junkie Boutique blog! Hugs! Sara Emily
