"How do you like to spend your summer days? Whether its swimming in the sea, boating on a lake, or laying on a beach drinking a lovely ice cold cocktail, we would love to know your favorite way to spend the long lazy days of summer!"
Well, summer is NOT my favorite season... I much prefer the cooler crisper days of autumn or even the balmier, softer days of spring, both seasons of which are very short lived here in the extremes of NW Ohio climate. Summer here is hot, humid, populated with severe weather alerts (thunder storms, flash floods and tornadoes are not unheard of...), and basically a time to hid out in air conditioned spaces until the days get shorter!
Still, when I was a kid, there was something that my brother and I and my cousins LOVED to do in summer: play at the beach! We'd swim in the surf (always being careful to mind the rip tides), collect shells (and the occasional tar ball or orange peel which floated ashore from navy ship bilges as they passed by off shore), and build sand castles. Of course, there was always the problem of sand building up inside bathing suits, painful feet from walking barefoot across stretches of scorching hot sand, and, the worst of all, sunburns no matter how much sunscreen was applied. Still, every summer when we visited the grandparents in New Jersey, we always clamored for at least one visit to our Aunt, Uncle and three cousins "down the shore"...
