Challenge: Repeat Performance

1/24/2020

The FUnkie Junkie Boutique Blog Challenge for January 22, 2020 is "Repeat Performance":

" ...save money (and the environment) by using at least one thing [we] would normally throw out on [our] vintage or shabby chic project."

Now I don't know how it works in your households, but ours gets a LOT of mail soliciting donations, often including a "free gift" as encouragement. Most of the time, I pitch the "free gifts" as they have little value to me, but I do keep the pens and notepads and mailing labels;  occasionally I also keep some of the little tchotchkes.Such was the case with a series of solicitations from an Indian School which sent dream catchers and little necklaces over the year. I save a few of these and put them in my stash, labeled "stuff".

The primary item that fits this challenge that I used was the cover of a notepad. Show here is the back, which included two bookmarks and a 2019 calendar...

Other items used were some feather charms and a Christmassy Dream catcher

I partially disassembled for this  challenge (I removed all the foliage and Christmassy words) and attached three   father charms to the dream catcher with Kreinik braid.I started by cutting out the dreamcatcher bookmark, trimming it down a little, and attaching it to an ivory notecard. I glued the modified dreamcatcher to the front of the card and attached a "banner" of embossed blue cardstock:

Products used for the making of this card were:

  • Repeat Performance items: Notepad cover, dream catcher and feather charms, all “freebies” that came in the mail with different Indian School donation solicitations
  • Stamps: Ink on 3 “Lilac Dreams
  • Inks: Versamark
  • Embossing Powder: GInaK “detail Fine Silver”
  • Paper: ParkLane Paperie A2 notecard “ivory”(15919590); scrap of blue
  • Adhesives: GInaK “Connect” glue; Scrapbooked Adhesive 3-D Foam squares

Note to self.
Heavy embellishments need to be used sparingly! This is the second card in a week where my attachments were too heavy for any of the glues I have! Even Weldbond didn't hold that dreamcatcher so I had to cover the back of the sentiment with foam squares and hope...

How clever of you to save this 'stuff'! The bookmark makes for a great background to the dream catcher and feather embellishments. You obviously get better junk mail than i do, Carol! Thank you for taking your trash and making it into treasure for our Repeat Performance challenge at The Funkie Junkie Boutique blog!

PS I find that Distress Collage Medium Matte is the answer to all your gluing needs--it holds the heaviest embellishments. Just need the resist the urge to check it when it dries. :):)

I agree with Sara Emily, you get better bribery mail than I do. Re-purposing these items have made a very lovely card. Thanks for joining us at The Funkie Junkie Boutique Blog.
Hugs!
