The Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge for September 28, 2015 is "Ombre"! To quote the Design Team:
"Ombre is a French word for a color with a shaded tone or varying tones. An example of ombre is a color that fades from dark gray to light gray.
"From the popular Hero Arts ink pads to the new Distress DIY ink pads ombre is one trend that is going strong! You can be inspired to use an ink pad, make your own blend of colors, or even go for something monochromatic if you like."
I've been challenged to do a few ombre cards in the past year (starting with the Compendium of Curiosities Challenge) and finally thought I had the technique down but, of course, it didn't work out quite how I wanted Then I made a Distress Ink Custom Ink Blend ("Barn Door", "Abandoned Coral" and "Spiced Marmalade") that I used in a Tim Holtz Tag of the Month challenge back in June, and decided to create a background on Distress Water Color Paper.
This is kind of a quick card --- nothing special. I stamped the stamp (from a new stamp/stencil set that arrived in the mail today!).on the background using Archival "Jet Black" (pretty much a fail here - I need a better positioner than my eyes...), used the stencil to cut a circle in a piece of card stock to frame the stamp (and cover the smears around the background edges), used a blending pen to "clear" the moon of some of the color, and made up a timely title (having viewed the lunar eclipse last night through sporadic cloud cover - I would dearly love to have been in Napa instead!) Given the color choice I made, it could well remind Napa residents of the recent fires, so perhaps it isn't such a serendipitous choice...:
