Challenge: Rainbow

WOW! Embossing Powder fans jumped the gun a little with the August 2018 challenge but here I go...

I started by heat embossing the feathers from the WOW! stamp set "Flights of Fancy"> I used a placement technique I saw doe o line where the stamper left the stamps i place on acetate to place them on the card i a stamp platform, After adhering the stamps and acetate to the lid, the acetate sheet was removed and all the stamps left on the lid.

I stamped with Vrsamark and embossed with six colors of WOW! embossing powder:

Picture
My versa mark pad/embossing powder wasn't perfect but I was going to add sentiments so I could cover up the "bald" spots. My first sentiment addition was an embossed oval with a phrase from A Concord & 9th stamp set. I layered the oval on cream card and fussy cut it:
Picture
I die cut a word for the same two scraps of black and cream card, and layered int before attaching the word and oval to the card:
Picture
Products used in the making of this card were:

  • Stamps: WOW! “Flights of Fancy” (STAMPSET32); Concord & 9th “Butterfly Beauty” (10164)
  • Dies/Punches: Stamping’ Up oval punch; Sizzix “Shadow Script #2” (662685)
  • Inks: versamark
  • Embossing Powders: WOW! “Primary Apple Red Super Fine” (WH01SF), “Primary Lemon Yellow Regular” (WH06R), “Metalline Green Regular” (WG03R), “Oceanic” (WL21R), “Earthtone Blueberry” (WJ06R) and “Blueberry Cheesecake” (WL09R)
  • Papers: The Paper Studio notecard “white” (225459); scraps of black and cream
  • Adhesives: Wendy Vecchi “Perfect Card Adhesive” (62134)

Challenge: Embossing Glitters

7/6/2018

The WOW! facebook challenge for July 2018 is "embossing  glitters".

I never have a lot of luck with these --- I can't seem to get the bonding powder to be sticky enough and, for me at least,  Versamark sheds glitter like my cats shed fur. Still, I decided to give it a try.

I started with Versamark and three WOW! embossing glitters with a background stamp:
Picture
Then I heat embossed part of a sentiment with WOW! bossing powder, stamped another part of the sentiment in Archival Ink, and after fussy cutting and matting these words, added them to the card front:
Picture
Products used in making this card were:
  • Stamps: WOW! "Go Figure" (Stay Set 45) and Winnie and Walter "Big Bold You" (WW 006)
  • Inks: versamark; Archival "Pardise Teal"
  • Embossing Powders: WOW! Embossing Glitters "Spring Breeze" (WS03R). "Sea Glass"(WS78R), and "Metallic Silver Sparkle" (WS09R); WOW! Embossing Powder "Ocean" (WL 21R)
  • Papers: The Paper Studio notecard pack "white" (225359) and scraps of white and teal card stock
  • Adhesives: Wendy Vecchi "Perfect Car Adhesive" (WVA62134); RedLine 1/8" Embossing Tape

Challenge: Anything Goes

6/17/2018

:The WOW! Embossing Powder Fans facebook page challenge for June is "Anything Goes".

I had made a card base for another challenge and set it aside as not quite what I wanted for that challenge. This card background was a direct-to-paper application of Distress Inks to create an ombre gradation from dark blue to yellow. But the gradation wasn't smooth enough.
Still, I liked the look of it and decided to use it for this challenge.

I touched up the dark blue with Distress Oxide "Faded Jeans" and stamped some "feathers" (or maybe leaves?) in Versamark and embossed in Metallic Gold Rich embossing powder:
Picture
Then I stamped a sentiment, again in Versamark, and heat embossed it with "Opaque Bright White" embossing powder:
Picture
Products used in the making of this quick and simple card were:

  • Stamps: WOW! “Flights of Fancy” (STAMPSET32) and “Starburst” (STAMPSET49)
  • Inks: Distress Inks: Custom ink pad (consisting of “Barn Door”, “Abandoned Coral” and “Spiced Marmalade”), "Faded Jeans" and “Seedless Preserves”: Distress Oxide “Faded Jeans”; Versamark
  • Embossing Powders: WOW! Metallic Gold Rich regular (WCo4R) and “Opaque Bright White Super Fine” (WL01SF)
  • Papers: Neena "Solar White"

Challenge: Color Palette Inspiration

5/18/2018

Altenew has issued a color palette for May on which to base challenge entries:
Picture
I selected some Altenew Crisp Dye Inks that were close to those shown above and set about creating a floral card.

I started with a background where I stamped a floral background stamp on watercolor paper, once in Archival "Jet Black" and once in Versamark, heat embossed with "Rose Gold" embossing powder. I trimmed the embossed image by fussy cutting around the edges of some of the flowers, giving me what amounts to a border strip:
Picture
I misted both images with water and painted selected flowers in the embossed strip with Altenew Crisp Dye Ink "Rouge"  and "smooshed" the "Jet Black" strip in watered downCrisp Dye Ink "Turquoise". I layered the strip onto the blue background and matted with a coordinating scrap of blue cardstock:
Picture
I attached the floral images to a white card base and stamped a sentiment (from the Altenew "Painted Sentiments" set) in Versamark and embossed with "Rose Gold. I  edged the sentiment strip with a gold marker and applied it to the card front:
Picture
Products used in the making of this card were:

  • Stamps: WOW! “Tropical” (STAMPSET28); Altenew “Painted Greetings”
  • Inks: Versamark; Archival “Jet Black”; Altenew Crisp Dye Inks “Turquoise” and “Puffy Heart”; Marvy Uchida “Liquid Gold” marker
  • Embossing Powders: WOW! “Rose Gold” (WL17R)
  • Papers: Ranger Watercolor Paper (ISW39532); Neena Solar White; scrap of blue
  • Adhesives: Ranger Wendy Vecchi “Perfect Card Adhesive”; RedLine 1/8’ embossing tape

Challenge: For Love of Foils

The April 2018 challenge at WOW! is to use foil in our card with the theme "All About WOW! Fab Foils".

I have a pretty broad selection of the WOW! foils but have not used them with their Bonding Powder before so this card was a learning experience. Once I mastered the foiling, I added a sentiment and some ink-only starburst to my "celebration" card:

Picture
Products used in the making of this card were:

  • Stamps: WOW! “Starburst”
  • Inks: Versamark, Hero Arts My Monthly Hero “Fiesta Teal”; Archival Jet Black”
  • Papers: Blue top-folding square card; WOW! Fab Foil - gold”
  • Adhesives: WOW! Bonding Powder (WX01)

Challenge: Easter Inspired

3/17/2018

There is a mood board posted over at the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge board for March 14, 2018 --- all to act as inspiration for an Easter Card. It includes photos and colors to choose from;
Picture
I opted for the egg photo as my inspiration and went with a little tongue in cheek on my card.

I started with my egg. I sued some tacky tape I had bought on a whim and die cut a solid egg from it. I took a scrap of gold card and die cut a decoration for the egg from that. I adhered the gold to the sticky egg and sprinkled three different shades of WOW! glitter on the exposed sticky areas. After cleaning up all of teh glitter  (really, most - there is still some of the glitter on my work surface and my
jeans), this is what I had:

Picture
My next step was a card base. I used a white notecard and stamped two Crazy Cats in Archival "Jet Black". I colored the cats with Distress Markers and a water brush.  I stamped, colored and die-cut a pair of bunny ears fo that cat:
After dry-fitting my egg to the card, I stamped a pair of "Crazy Tag phrases in Archival "Jet Black", cut around the head of the bunny-eared cat and slipped the egg into place. Final touches included adding a "ground" for teh cats adn the egg using a Distress marker and a water brush:
Picture
Clearly, the Crazy Cat pair are at best bemused, at worst startled by the glittery egg dropped into their world.!

Products used in the making of this card were:

  • Stamps: Stampers Anonymous “Crazy Cats” (CMS251), “Crazy Things” (CMS237), and “Crazy Talk” (CMS236)
  • Dies: PoppyStamps “Grand Egg” (829) and “Ornate Egg” (828); Sizzix Thinlits “Crazy Things” (660953)
  • Inks: Archival “Jet Black”; Distress Markers “Worn Lipstick”, “Spiced Marmalade”, “Carved Pumpjkin”,, “Pumice Stone” and “Hickory Smoke”
  • Embossing Powders/Glitter: WOW! Sparkles “Santorini” (SPRK005), “Jade” (SPRK004), and “Seahorse” (SPRK015)
  • Paper: The Paper Studio “white” notecard (225359); scrap of gold card
  • Adhesives: Art Accents “Terrifically Tacky Tape”; Simon Says Stamp Craft Tacky Glue

Challenge: All About Hearts

The WOW! challenge for January 2018 is "All About Hearts".

I tried something new in this card - an embossing pen! And I embossed over a black image!

I started by stamping my image in Archival Black. Then I inked over selected parts of the image and embossed them with WOW! Embossing powders and glitter...
Picture
I mounted my trimmed image on gloss black card and then on a shimmery green pre-folded card:
Picture
I finished up with an Idea-ology occasions sticker for a sentiment:
Picture
Products used in the making of this card were:
  • Stamps: Peny Black "words sweet" (3796K)
  • Inks: Archival "Jet Black"; Ranger "Emboss It" pen
  • Embossing Powders: WOW! "Primary Apple Red Super Fine" (WH01SF), "Metalline Green Regular" (WG03R) and "Silver Hologram Sparkle Embossing Glitter" (WS11R)

Challenge: Snow White

11/11/2017

No, not the fairy tale character, although I suppose a card featuring her could qualify for this challenge. Simon Says Stamp Wednesday wants us to create a  project featuring either snow or white space in their challenge issued on Novemeber 8, 2017.

I decide to go with both...

First I stamped a series of snowflakes in Versamark, heat embossing them with four different white/silver/sparkly embossing powder:

Picture
The addition of clear gems to the snowflake centers (yes, they are all clear gems - bad camera angle) and a sentiment stamped in Versamark and heat embossed in silver completed this clean and simple card:
Picture
Products used in the making of this card were:

  • Stamps: Stampers Anonymous “Swirly Snowflakes” (CMS319) and “Mini Swirly Snowflakes” (CMS320); StoryStamp “Let It Snow” (828c)
  • Inks: Versamark
  • Embossing Powders: WOW! “White Pearl Super Fine” (WE10SF), “Metallic Silver Regular” (WC05R), “Vanilla Sparkle” (WS58R), and “Silver Hologram Sparkle” (WS11R)
  • Embellishments: Hero Arts Gemstones “clear” (CH121)

Challenge: Triple Embossing

10/3/2017

This October, the WOW! challenge theme is "TRIPLE EMBOSSING".

I THINK I did this right...

I started with a chipboard shape and embossed with "White Pearl".

Picture
I re-inked and embossed with "Earthtone Blueberry":
Picture
I re-inked and embossed with "Sea Glass" embossing glitter:
Picture
And then I re-inked, three times, and embossed with clear embossing powder. White the shape was still hot, I pressed a rubber stamp into the molten embossing powder, waited a few seconds and removed it to reveal:
Picture
Now for the card on which this piece will be center-stage.

I embossed a chipboard frame three times, once with "White Pearl", one with "Primary Lemon" and once with "Spring Breeze" embossing glitter:

I embossed a chipboard butterfly with "Primary Lemon":
Picture
I die-cut a detailed butterfly from a scrap of leftover painted background (I can't remember what pigments I used but I THINK it was Ken Oliver's pigment powders and metallic paints in greens and gold) and a scrap of dark silver card (which had earlier been run through my Xyron sticker maker):
Picture
Now to assemble...

I cut a piece of pale yellow card to fit a pre-folded gloss white card. I layered a paper doily, two torn scraps of patterned paper, some snippets, and a clipping sticker along with the above shape, frame and butterflies for this card:
Picture
Products used in the making of this card were:

  • Stamps: Stampers Anonymous “Swirly Snowflakes” (CMS319)
  • Dies: Sizzix “Detailed Butterflies” (661182)
  • Inks: Versamark; Distress Ink “Old Paper”
  • Embossing Powders: WOW! “White Pearl” (WE10SF); “Primary Lemon” (WH06R), and “Earthtone Blueberry” (WJ06R); Viva Las Vegas Ultra High Gloss Clear Regular

Challenge: Clean and Simple (Resist Technique, pt.2)

9/13/2017

Back in the summer, Jessica Waisanen published a tutorial on Splitcoaststampers called “Ink Spritzer Background”  which was very similar to the technique Kristina Warner taught at the Simon Says Stamp Create 2017 weekend… and I had played with this technique in August of this year.

When the WOW! design team presented their challenge for September, 2017 (Resist Technique), and I was less than happy with my first attempt, I decided to try this background approach, using a scrap of white cardstock, a flourish stamp, WOW! embossing powder and Lindy’s Gang sprays. This is the background that resulted:
Picture
To finish the card, I matted the background on a piece of dark green card:
Picture

and then on a small notecard:
Picture
I added some Design Tape and a die-cut word to complete my card
Picture
I am also entering this card in the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge for September 12, 2017: “Clean and Simple”
and the Frilly & Funky Challenge for September 13, 2017: To Everything There Is a Season

Products used in the making of this card were:

  • Stamps: Inkadinkado “flourish” (98295-P)
  • Dies: Sizzix Thinnlits “Friendship Words - script” (660223)
  • Inks: Lindy’s SpraysFlat Fabio “Orange Creamsicle”, MoonShadow “Golden Doubloons” and Starburst “Cathedral Pines Green”; Versamark
  • Embossing Powders: WOW! “White Pearl Super Fine” (WE10SF)

  • Embellishments: Idea-ology Design Tape “Rose” (TH93354)
