The Altenew color palette for January 2018 is bright, cheery and spring-like and not-at-all like the weather outside at this time! I loved the colors so I went with a clean and simple card using yellow, orange and pink: Products used in the making of this card were:

The Altenew Card blog challenge for December 2017 is to pick one of the inspirations provided throughout the year and encore that one as the inspiration for December: After reviewing the color palettes on offer, I elected to go with the April, 2017 challenge color palette: and use a recently purchased stamps set "Layered Laurel" in a more abstract way. I started by inking a section of white card with "Warm Sunshine" ink, direct-to-paper. I then masked off the center with a 3" die-cut circle adn stamped the laurel images around the circle in five shades of blue: I then die-cut another circle from pale yellow card, stamped a lotus flower for "Lotus" stamp set in "Paper Bag" and colored it with Intense pencils ("Sea Blue) and a blending pen. I added a sentiment in blue on a strip of pale aqua card and drew in scallops of the circle and lines on the sentiment banner with a gold pen. I matted the white card with gold mirror card and then on a pre-folded kraft card: It was quite a break form three months of holiday themed cards and color palettes!

Altenew's November Inspiration consists of the anutmnal color palette and photograph below: I started with the background, layering Crisp Dye Inks on watercolor paper: I added a sentiment from the Altenew stamp set "With Gratitude". I then stamped leaves from the same set on scraps of yellow, pale orange and brown card and die cut them with the coordinating die sete before arranging them on the card base: Products used in the making of this card were:
Seven Hills has issued a challenge for September 2017: Spotlight It! We are to "'highlight' one area of our card either through the use of colour whilst the rest is black and white, by using a frame to pick out an area, mats and layers over stamping, or even by creative use of die cuts!" I opted for using a die-cut circle in a black-and-white card cover through which watercolored version of the same card showed through. I started by stamping the same images (using my MISTI and lots of masks) in Altenew Crisp Dye inks of three colors - Lava Rock for the cover and Caribbean Blue and Bamboo for the spotlighted backdrop:: I hadn't decided which part I would spotlight yet so I watercolored a larger portion of the backdrop than I would need, using more Altenew Crisp Dye Inks and Intense Pencils: I die-cut circle in the cover using a Sizzix Thilits die and overlayed it on the backdrop: I added a sentiment, matted the card on lime green and layered it on a glossy white card cut to fit; I added more color to the spotlighted area once the card was assembled so the spotlight area would show more contrast. I'm also entering this in the Altenew Card Blog Challenge for September 2017. The color palette and inspirational photo are shown below: The Altenew Scrapbooking blog has a sketch challenge up for August. Now, for this particular blog, the primary audience is scrapbook enthusiasts, one of which I am NOT. But sketches intrigue me and I wanted to try to take this sketch and palette: and see if I could make a greeting card from it. So... I took a 5" x 7" white pre-folded card and cut it down to 5" x 5". I cut a circle from a scrap of lime green card using a stitched die after I had stamped an image in Archival "Jet Black" (which will pass for my "photo". I die cut a greeting from a scrap of black card, previously run through my Xyron 500 sticker maker. I attached circle and greeting to the card base and, using my MISTI, some Altenew stamp sets, and Distress Oxides in some of the palette colors and stamped around the circle motif: I now have a card in my stash which I can send to some of our Saudi Arabian friends at the next Eid!

Altenew has issued a color inspiration for August 2017 which is a card made by Design Team member Erum Tasneem: I chose to copy the layout of the card using a different stamp set. I started with stamping two blooms and some leaves from "Spring Daisy"using a mask I had saved from an earlier card. I used Versamark Ink and gold embossing powder: I smoothed some Altenew Crisp Inks on an acrylic block and using a water spritzer, a fine paint brush and two different sized blending brushed, I watercolored the daisies using a color palette suggested by the photograph. This is my first run-through - I touched up the colors and added Intense Pencil detail on the final image: You can see where I dripped my brush while spattering so I decided to hide the mistake with a sentiment from "Painted Greeting": I trimmed my image, matted it with a scrap of turquoise card stock, and then layered it on a pre-folded ivory card: Products used in the making of this card were:
Altenew's original blog is still issuing color palette challenges for card makers and the one for July, 2017 is to use this photo and palette: I decided to mimic the floral arrangement and use the entire color palette in a small notecard: Products used in the making of this card were:
I also entered this in the Simon Say Stamp wednesday Challenge, June 28, 2017: Anything Goes. Altenew has a new blog devoting to scrapbooking enthusiasts and this week (July 1, 2017), they issued a sketch challenge, with an accompanying color palette: Now I do not scrap, at least I haven't in years and never in the way the current scrapbooking craze is going. But the rules say: "Make a scrapbook layout, a documenter spread, a notebook pocket spread or any other project based on the sketch above. You may use either the colors, the composition, the elements, the texture or any combination to create your project." So... I can do "any other project" and I thought it would be fun to try to use this sketch in a card. Sort of a fireworks display over Sydney --- never been there, never done that and it probably would have looked better on black but I couldn't figure out how to make those pastel colors work on a dark background without using a product other than Altenew. Still...

I'm also entering this in the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge, June 28, 2017: Anything Goes. Altenew's June 2017 Inspiration is a photograph of a white-on-white (with hints of purple and rose) corsage: I basically copied the layout using an ombre background: and a spray of die-cut blooms and leaves from the Altenew set "Adore You". The background was blended Altenew Crisp Dye Ink on white card, the flowers were stamped in Altenew Crisp Dye Ink "Caramel Toffee", the leaves were stamped in Altenew Crisp Dye Ink "Forest Glade", and the sentiment (from Altenew's "Painted Greetings") was stamped in Altenew Crisp Dye Ink "Midnight Violet".

Altenew design team has release a new sketch with a related color palette: The challenge rules include:
I decided to go with two of the colors in the palette (the yellow and orange), the heart element in the sketch and the sketch layout for my card. I stamped a heart in Archival "Watering Can" on white card and blooms in Versamark, heat-embossed in white, from Altenew "Adore You" on three different colors of yellow/orange card stock. These images were then fussy cut. I die cut two rectangles from scrap white and black card and trimmed a small piece of black card on which I stamped and heat embossed a sentiment from Altenew "Painted Greeting". After assembling the paper pieces on a white background, I layered it on coordinated yellow and orange card and stamped a greeting from Altenew "Adore You" in Altenew "Caramel Toffee": Products used in the making of this card were:
